At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe, with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. Teaching started in the winter semester of 2021/22. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of opportunities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases".  The University Medical Center EWL and the Medical School EWL strive for cross-site cooperation of the perinatal centers Level 1 in the EWL region. The clinic for pediatrics and adolescent medicine and the clinic for gynecology at the Campus Klinikum Lippe as well as the Children's Center at the Campus Bielefeld-Bethel and the clinic for gynecology and obstetrics, offer optimal structural conditions for this. The development and expansion of the complementary profiles are also to be significantly co-responsible by you.. Clinical research will be organized and implemented within the framework of a structural and development concept for cross-location cooperation that will be created with your participation, considering the requirements of the existing university clinics and the entire Medical School.

We expect networking with other clinics of the University Medical Center EWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region. Accordingly, we are looking for personalities with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.

The Medical School EWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Clinic for Pediatrics at the Klinikum Lippe a

Professorship for Pediatrics with focus on Neonatology (W3)

at the earliest possible date.

The call aims at personalities with an already established national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in patient care, research, and teaching in its entirety.

The prerequisites are

  • specialist qualification for Pediatrics with focus on Neonatology
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • high-ranking scientific achievements within Pediatrics reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • extensive clinical leadership experience (leading senior physician role, representation of the clinic management) in a perinatal center, level 1 if possible, and team orientation
  • demonstrated experience in both clinical and experimental research through relevant publications
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School EWL
  • extensive and innovative teaching experience for the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

As the position holder, you will lead the Clinic for Pediatrics at Klinikum Lippe. For the University Medical Center EWL at the Detmold Campus, a structure is planned, which will enable the opportunities and challenges of the dynamically developing subjects within perinatology to be utilized, and developed for competitive research, excellent teaching, and patient-oriented care. Against this background, we expect you to cooperate with relevant areas of the clinic and the university and further develop the field of perinatology in terms of content, organization, and science together with the other holders, especially the Perinatal Center at the Campus Bielefeld-Bethel. The Perinatal Center at Klinikum Lippe will continue to meet the structural requirements for a Level I Perinatal Center of the G-BA in the long term. Committed collaboration in the development of cross-faculty and cross-holder research platforms, also concerning the processing of translational issues, is expected.

Professorship for Neonatology (W2)

at the earliest possible date. Thereby associated is the position of Head Departmental Physician for Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine at the Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Bielefeld-Bethel Campus (CBB).

The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international research profile who can represent the field of work in patient care, research, and teaching in its entirety and who can establish an independent research focus.

The prerequisites are

  • specialist qualification in pediatrics with a focus on neonatology; additional qualification in pediatric intensive care medicine is also desirable
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • broad clinical experience in the field of Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine, and leadership experience
  • many years of clinical experience in a perinatal center, if possible level 1
  • clinical leadership and management skills, as well as team orientation
  • notable participation in national and international societies or committees dealing with clinical and scientific aspects of neonatology and pediatric intensive care medicine
  • experience in planning, managing and conducting clinical trials
  • willingness to contribute to the establishment of the Clinical Study Center at the Children's Center and future management of studies in the corresponding field of expertise
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School EWL
  • extensive and innovative teaching experience for the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

The University Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Bielefeld-Bethel Campus (CBB) covers pediatrics in its entire breadth. With 120 beds, it represents the largest pediatric clinic in the region and the University Medical Center EWL. The clinic is part of the university Children's Center Bethel. With over 200 inpatient beds, specialized outpatient areas, and the Children's Hospice Bethel, the Children's Center Bethel further includes the clinic for pediatric and adolescent surgery, the clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, and the departments for pediatric radiology, pediatric anesthesiology, and the Interdisciplinary Pediatric Emergency Department. Further opportunities for cooperation at the CBB arise, among others, with the clinics for Inclusive Medicine, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Anesthesiology-Intensive Medicine-Transfusion Medicine-Pain Therapy, Trauma Surgery with Pediatric Orthopedics, and Supraregional Trauma Center, Neurology and Internal Medicine.

We will provide a competitive laboratory infrastructure and central animal husbandry. As the position holder, you will be involved significantly in the establishment and independent division management of a clinical study center in pediatrics and the establishment of a broad-based neonatal cohort with a focus on microbiome and prediction of chronic diseases.

For the appeals applies:

A private-law employment contract with the University is envisaged for the performance of the duties of the professorship. The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG.

The tasks within patient care for the W3-Professorship, including the right to liquidation, will be regulated via a contract for chief physicians with the Klinikum Lippe.

The tasks within patient care for the W2-Professorship will be regulated via an employment contract with the Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel gGmbH (EvKB).
